Starting a Chapter

Your new chapter will need a charter and organization format (officers & committees). Specifically, you will need a core group of 4 individuals for the following offices:  President, Finance, Membership and Operations (Education/Programs).  In addition, you should have at least 10 members who are interested in being part of your chapter and possibly serving on your new executive committee. You may want to contact the ABPMP Vice President of Chapter Services to identify any ABPMP International members-at-large who may be in your area and interested in participating in a local chapter.

NOTE:  If you are not a Professional member, you (and your other officers) will need to become Professional ABPMP members.  This gives you access to our content to develop your Chapter and also gives you voting rights in the organization.

Startup Requirements

- President appointed

- At least three Vice Presidents (Finance, Membership, Operations/Programs) appointed and agreed to by the ABPMP Board

- Initial 10 members recruited and registered as members

- Code of Ethics signed by all Officers and members of the chapter

- Chapter development kit is available in our Member Area

Initiation

- Chapter Bylaws submitted and approved
- Chapter Letter of Agreement signed, submitted, and approved

- Proposed Schedule of Events for the Initial Calendar Year
- Post ABPMP logo, link to ABPMP Web site, state that they are a ABPMP Chapter, and promote ABPMP events that may occur

Maintenance

- Inform ABPMP International of any updates pertaining to contact information, change in leadership, CBPP® candidates, etc.
- Submit short, one page quarterly report updates

Then, you should begin your task of forming an ABPMP International chapter with a small committee. Working together as a team will provide you the structure and impetus to keep things going, even when the job might seem overwhelming.

ABPMP International has developed a Chapter Start Up Kit to assist you in your efforts to start your local chapter of ABPMP. In addition, you should feel free to enlist advice of the Vice President of Chapter Services; or any President of another Chapter.
